Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Randomizer?
A randomizer is a video game that has been altered so that one of its primary assets has been “shuffled”, creating a new experience for players. This can include moving around items that must be acquired in order to beat the game, or even displacing enemies and making new challenges. Fans of classic games are especially fond of these modifications, as it brings a sort of new life to the titles that they often grew up with.
I keep hearing streamers use the term “RNG” during the marathon. What does this mean?
“RNG” stands for “Random Number Generator”, which is a basic element of game development. It’s more or less the equivalent of sticking your hand in a bowl full of tickets in order to draw a winner. Players are entirely at the mercy of this randomness when their games are generated, and the results can range anywhere from nice and easy to insanely brutal.
How can I provide additional help to the charity?
Many companies provide funds to charities if their employees are willing to volunteer or donate to a charity. Check with your company! You could end up getting your donation doubled, or you could potentially document volunteer hours with us in exchange for money to go towards the charity!
Why are donation prizes only available in the US?
Many prizes are provided to us by generous donors/volunteers, who live in the US and have agreed to pay postage costs for shipping within the US. Therefore, we try to keep all shipping costs for them to local deliveries; it has been extremely costly to ship some prizes internationally (fees exceeding over $100 in total). If you really, really want a prize to be shipped internationally, please reach out to us to see if we can make an exception, or provide a US shipping address of a friend! Also, some of our donors are in other countries, so feel free to ask!
